PPF Comments on Olympic National Park Air Tour Plan
PPF submitted the following comments to the National Park Service:
Protect the Peninsula’s Future, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization registered with the Washington Secretary of State since 1973, is submitting the following comments on the Olympic National Park (ONP) Air Tour Management Plan:
ONP is designated as wilderness. Air tours over ONP are wholly inconsistent with the spirit and the letter of the Wilderness Act of 1964 which states that designated wilderness areas “shall be administered for the use and enjoyment of the American people in such manner as will leave them unimpaired for future use and enjoyment as wilderness, and so as to provide for the protection of these areas, the preservation of their wilderness character…” The sight and sound of aircraft totally extinguishes the wilderness character of a place. Air tours are totally inappropriate in a wilderness park such as ONP.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this important issue.
