Olympic National Forest Finds No Significant Impact for Road Decommissioning Project

Progress! PPF submitted comments in support of decommissioning US Forest Service roads at risk of negatively impacting aquatic resources in the Dungeness Watershed last July: https://www.protectpeninsulasfuture.org/?p=619. The Hood Canal Ranger District, Olympic National Forest, has completed the Environmental Assessment (EA) and a draft Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact (DN/FONSI) for the proposed Dungeness Watershed Roads Management Project. The final EA and draft DN/FONSI are now available for a 45-day objection period.

Protect the Peninsula’s Future, a non-profit corporation dedicated to wise land use on the north Olympic Peninsula since 1973, applauds Olympic National Forest’s draft Decision Notice and Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed Dungeness Watershed Roads Management Project. We fully support Alternative A (to close, decommission or convert to trail) roads that negatively impact aquatic resources. The benefits of this project will extend far beyond the boundaries of Olympic National Forest for generations to come. We thank you for planning this project, and for the opportunity to comment.
